Welcome
to Teff.

We’re a family-owned eatery focused on creating a communal dining experience for all.

Centered around traditional Eritrean & Ethiopian cuisine, Chef Hadas Mengesha showcases recipes from Northern Ethiopia passed down from generations of talented women. We are grateful to share our culture with you.

The names of our dishes are in both Tigrinya (language of Eritrea/Northern Ethiopia) and Amharic (main language of Ethiopia).

On one shared plate, you’ll find delicious eats that accommodates meat eaters, vegans and vegetarians as well as the gluten, dairy, nut and seed intolerant. Our food is for everyone to share a meal together.

O U R S T O R Y

In 2015, Teff first opened its doors on the West Side of Stamford, where the Mekonen-Mengesha family’s deli onced like since 1999. The family’s youngest daughter, Elsa Mekonen, returned home from California to open the restaurant for mom and Teff chef, Hadas Mengesha. After eight years at the West Main Street location, Chef Hadas passed the business to Elsa and as the new owner, Elsa relocated the business to downtown Stamford which opened in May of 2024.
